Protection galleries are a usual system for protecting various structures against avalanches.
As opposed to rigid or flexible structures (which prevent the avalanche from starting in the first place) protection galleries do not avoid avalanches, but protect the infrastructure in its path.
They are built from reinforced concrete or steel and its function is to allow the avalanche to pass over the infrastructure without affecting it.
