This action is part of the project of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda for the improvement of National Road N-260 between Run and Campo. Our team has been working for over 2 years to condition the slopes and install the necessary protection systems to ensure the safety of vehicle passage through this crucial route in the Pyrenees of Huesca.
At the end of 2021, we began the first phase of the work, consisting of the installation of different dynamic barriers against rock falls from the slopes located above the road. The work was carried out in areas with difficult and very difficult access, requiring the use of personnel elevating platforms for the barriers located immediately above the road, and helicopters for barriers on more distant slopes, along with rope access techniques.
Currently, we are carrying out the work for a second phase. This involves the conditioning of the higher slopes above the road to prevent the fall of different rock blocks. Prior to the treatment of the terrain, an assessment was carried out to locate and prioritize the different unstable blocks, and solutions were designed to mitigate the geological risk of the slope. This solution consisted of installing different cable mesh panels held in place with anchors. For some specific blocks, the installation of cable straps was chosen to secure the blocks to the rock wall.
In this second phase, aerial means were used to transport equipment and machinery to the heads of the slopes and also for the placement of panels in designated areas.
INACCÉS GEOTÈCNICA VERTICAL will continue to work on this project led by the ministry until all the work for the mitigation of the geological risks that make up this natural landscape is completed.
Aware of the vital importance of this road for the Pyrenees region in which hit is located, these works have been carried out as quickly as possible to minimize the impact on traffic, and provisional protection barriers have been installed to work simultaneously with open traffic.
