For ground consisting of compact or very resistant materials, an alternative to blasting is demolition by applying expansive cement that are introduced into previously drilled holes, which result in the breakage of the blocks along the lines of the mesh perforations provided.
The delayed action of these materials (12 to 24 hours) requires that the areas affected are protected against falling blocks.
It is usually used where blasting is not possible.
