A new 3,000-ki. Anti-rock dynamic barrier, 4 meters high, offers protection to users of the Ma2210 in the Serra de Tramuntana.
The barrier installed by INACCÉS GEOTÈCNICA VERTICAL, S.L., is of the type RMC300 / A has the capacity to absorb the impact of rock blocks with energies up to 3,000 KJ.
The technology of the intercept system of detachment is based on the interception mesh panel being placed at the barrier valley. The posts act independently of the mesh. If a pole is hit by a block and damaged, the adjacent poles absorb additional forces, ensuring that the system’s performance is not compromised.
The retention structure is continuous and formed by steel ring network panels. During impact the system ensures that the energy of the fall is dissipated, and the continuation of the falling motion of the block is avoided.
The barrier does not need steel anchorage cables to the valley. The energy dissipators guarantee high performance and high durability when working by deformation and not by friction. The barriers are certified according to UNI EN ISO 9001, in terms of dimensioning, manufacturing and marketing.
The installed barrier has passed the tests required by European regulations, namely the ETAG 027 “European Technical Guide for the approval of protection kits against rock fall”, having been tested in dynamic impact test on a barrier sample a Real scale of 3 spans, with a length of 10 meters of distance between poles and 5’0 meters of height. The test program was developed and carried out following the instructions given in the document “Guide ETAG 027 – Guide to the European Technical Suitability of Kits for Protection against Rockfall”.

The anti-slip dynamic barrier has been installed on a mountainous and steep terrain. However, because of the geometry of the system and its design, the forces developed on the lateral anchors are low, therefore, not excessively long anchoring lengths are required.
The bases of the posts have only the function of fixing the barrier to the ground, to where the loads are transferred through steel bars or micropiles.
