Gunite or shotcrete, , is mainly used for protecting or maintaining slopes or areas of broken or degraded rock.
With proper thickness and in combination with a metal frame (electro welded mesh or metal fibres) and bolts or anchors, it acts as a very effective support and containment system that similar to what a concrete wall can offer.
The protection offered against degradation or erosion of unstable material present on the slope is one of its main advantages.
Drainage systems should always be provided in areas treated with shotcrete.
